"The forthcoming elections in Tunisia: the political process, laws and oversight mechanisms" was the subject of the workshop organized  by Al Kawakibi Democracy Transition Center in collaboration with the Citizenship Center for Developping Democratic Processes  on March 3 and 4, 2011 in Tunis.

Participants focused on the definition of the electoral systems and the different mechanisms for an independent monitoring of the elections, and the importance of  reforming the  electoral laws and defining the political process.In addition, participants discussed  the current Tunisian political scene and talked about the monitoring mechanisms of elections in Lebanon and the opportunities for monitoring the upcoming elections in Tunisia.

After the opening session of the Minister of Culture, Mr. Ezzeddine Bash Chaouch,and Mr. Iadh Ben Achour, President of "the High Commission to achieve the goals of the revolution and political reform and democratic transition », speakers exposed  the political scene in Tunisia, stressing on the fragility of institutions and weak political parties.

Dr. Taleb Awad, International expert in the field of elections,  Dr. Ziad Abdel Samad,  Lebanese expert in the field of electoral observation, and Dr. Farhat Harchani, Chairman of the Sub-Commission for the elections, made presentations on the subject of  electoral systems, and mechanisms for the independent monitoring of elections, and  ways of reforming the electoral laws.

On the other hand, Mr. Mohsen Marzouk, the Secretary-General of the Arab Democracy Foundation and President of the Executive Committee of Al Kawakibi Democracy Transition Center proposed the preparation of a document on "Democratic Commitments" to be signed by all political parties as  the guarantor of  the revolution of  January 14th 2011.
