Al Kawakibi Democracy Transition Center in partnership with Freedom House organized a Conference in Tunis, on March 30 and 31st 2011 on "From Revolution to Democracy: Lessons learned from International experiences in Democracy Transition". A number of International experts, political activists and representatives from the Tunisian civil society participated in this conference which included three sessions dealing with "the Democracy Transition process management" and "writing the Constitution and Reform of National Institutions", in addition to researching the main challenges and opportunities for the upcoming elections and preparation of political parties to theses elections. Dr. Matias Orse, International Expert in Peaceful Democratic Transition, and Dr. Daniel Callingaert, Freedom House Organization, and a number of Tunisian guests as Mr. Mohsen Marzouk, Mr. Mohamed Chafik Sarsar, Mrs. Maya Jribi, Mrs. Bochra Bel Haj Hemida took part in all theses panels and expressed their views on how to approach the process of Democracy Transition required by Tunisia in this period before the upcoming elections. On the second day of the conference, Dr. David Sulmont, International Expert in Transitional Justice from Peru, and Ms. Katie Zoglin from Freedom House Organization, and Tunisian experts as Mr. Fakher Gafsi, Mr. Slaheddine Jourchi and Mr. Mohamed Abou discussed subjects related to "how to deal with the remnants of the old regime" and "how to confront the Tunisian memory", in addition to the upcoming steps that can promote the local scene, in the midst of the series of developments taking place in our country. All the sessions were followed by constructive discussions on the problems faced by democratic transition in Tunisia when rewriting the Constitution, reforming institutions and preparing elections. Participants expressed the fears facing all these issues and their hopes preparing to overcome them in order to reach a peaceful Democratic Transition in Tunisia. Al Kawakibi Democracy Transition Center will create a virtual space for debate and enriching discussions held between participants to follow up the activities and discussions on topics of the conference.
